H&F Electronics has produced MP3 players for five years in the market. From the beginning of 2010, the market share started to decline and the performance of the MP3 players is currently dissatisfactory, especially compared to iGADGET MP3 players in the market. This report was requested by the marketing manager, Mr. Gary Connick on the date of April 27th. Therefore, we requested M&D Market Research Company to conduct a recent market survey and the survey shows the percentage of both H&F and iGADGET users’ satisfaction in following aspects: 1) Design, 2) Functions, 3) Sound Quality, 4) Battery life, 5) Headphone quality and 6) Overall satisfaction. From the findings in the survey shows possible reasons for the MP3 players’ under-performance. This report aims to investigate the causes of the dissatisfaction and under-performance of MP3 players and then recommendations will be followed. In the next section, we will discuss about what we have found from the research and illustrate the causes of our under-performance.
2. Procedures
The findings for this analysis are based upon marketing research carried with customers in our marketing research center in February 2009. A total of 200 H&F MP3 users and 200 iGADGET MP3 users were interviewed and asked to complete a questionnaire regarding the satisfaction towards the products.
3. Findings
3.1 Overview
Attachment 1 shows the results of customers' satisfaction questionnaire conducted in February about H&F and iGADGET MP3 players. Overall, it is clear that around half of the interviewees were satisfied. In the questionnaire, six aspects are identified. But we are going to focus three out of six aspects, including designs, functions and headphone quality.
3.2 Designs
The table show that less than half of the customers are satisfied with H&F MP3 when compared to iGADGET MP3 players. The reason for this is limited colour range. Therefore, customers will prefer lighter and small sizes.
3.3 Functions
The findings show that less than two-fifths of H&F MP3 users were satisfied with its functions, compared to over 60% of iGADGET MP3 users. The reason for this is because it is inconvenient to transfer music files. This can lead customers to be dissatisfied with our product.
3.4 Headphone Quality
The findings show that less than a third of both H&F MP3 users and iGADGET MP3 users were satisfied with their headphone quality. This might be because the loose quality control. The implications of this are that it might cause a negative impact on company’s brand reputation.
3.5 Market share
The figuredemonstrates that the iGADGET market share increases rapidly than H&F's between March 2010 and February 2011. The reason for this is lack of marketing campaigns, out-dated spokesperson and poor quality from design functions and headphone.
4. Conclusion
Overall then, the findings clearly indicate that the performance of H&F MP3 is relatively low when compared to iGADGET one due to their designs, functions and headphone quality.
5. Recommendation
After considering the Findings, the following recommendations are made:
5.1 Designs
In the view of the designs of H&F MP3, I recommend that more colours, lighter and small sizes should be made by the manufacturing team, to attract more customers.
5.2 Functions
In the view of the fact that H&F MP3 users were satisfied with its functions, I suggest that that we put more resources into product research and development to improve our product’s function.
5.3 Headphone Quality
In the light of the fact that H&F MP3 users and iGADGET MP3 users were dissatisfied with the headphone quality. It is recommended that we should improve our headphone quality control, to rebuild up our company's reputation.
5.4 Market share
Given that H&F MP3 player does not have an increase in market share, the H&F marketing department should organize more marketing campaign to promote the products. For examples, changing the spokesperson who are matched with company objective and products image.
